Food Bank of Larimer County Photos

The new headquarters for the Food Bank of Larimer County recently had their Grand Opening. The renovation of the existing warehouse building selectively demolished elements that allowed the reuse of major elements like the structure and plumbing. The design cleaned up the exterior, introduced used shipping containers that create various spaces for employees and volunteers, and opened up the interior office areas while bringing in some color to the space. To view the completed project, please visit the project page.

Workshop Intern Farewell Note

A farewell…

I had an amazing time working as an intern at [au]workshop this summer!  It was such a marvelous experience full of exceptionable people who were all too happy to pass on their knowledge.  I learned invaluable things over the course of the past few months, and I cannot wait to take that experience into the next chapter of my life.

The size of this firm was perfect.  There were enough people to get a variety of tasks, yet small enough where I got to know everyone and feel like I got to be a part of something special.  This was my second internship, and I can say that without a doubt that this was the better fit for me.  This is the kind of firm that I can envision myself spending a lifetime with.  I wish the best of luck to the people at [au]workshop, and I cannot thank them enough for welcoming me with open arms.

Thanks for everything, and I hope our paths cross again,

Kat

Most Innovative Shopping Mall!

Emquartier has been recognized by the IFM as the Most Innovative Shopping Mall!

"The IFM’s Real Estate Awards recognise excellence in the Residential and Commercial property space in emerging markets. The real estate sector is challenging and determined by a variety of external factors, demanding a mix of customer-friendliness and innovation to remain relevant. san gabriel valley habitat for humanity desiderio dedication ceremony
2-Rick Wilkinson.jpg

On June 9 a dedication ceremony was held in Pasadena for the nine families moving into the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity Desiderio Homes development. The development, comprising nine single-family homes with detached garages, is arranged in bungalow court fashion with a common central courtyard flanked by single-story and two-story homes. Situated beneath the Colorado Street Bridge, the adjacent property is currently being developed by the City of Pasadena as a new city park.

The nine families participated in the construction of their new homes over the past two years as the entire development came to fruition.  Three of the families have military veterans and amongst the nine families there are 24 children who will now have homes to call their own! The bungalow court arrangement provides a common front courtyard for the children to play.

new workshop intern!

Kat is currently a student at the University of Notre Dame, where she is working on her Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch).  She is joining us this summer before she heads off to Rome to study abroad for this upcoming year.  In her own words, "I am fascinated with how hand-drafting and classical architecture relate to the modern world and cannot wait to study this in more depth over the following years."

We are thrilled to have Kat be a part of the workshop this summer!

The teachers of the 4-year-old class at Teaching Tree, our neighborhood preschool, asked us to come speak to the the kids about what it means to be an architect for their Design and Building curriculum week. Representing us and our profession, Stephanie Bedinghaus presented a few of our current projects and answered a multitude of questions about buildings.

If you look closely enough at the attached image, you will see Stephanie showing them an image of Confluence, a soon-to-be-constructed building right next to their school!

Nice job Stephanie!

Happy 5th Birthday [au]workshop!

[au]workshop turns 5 today! We can't believe how quickly the time has passed! We began as a three-person team in a shared office space back in 2013, and as our holiday party dinner table shows, we have grown ever since.

To celebrate, we 3d printed some custom commemorative fidget spinners to keep our hands busy during our frequent intra-office collaborations.

A big Thank You! to all of the wonderful clients and collaborators who have helped us succeed so far. We're excited for the next five!

Desiderio Home Construction Progress

Some member of our team were in Pasadena last week (at the lovely Huntington Gardens!) for meetings on another project and we wanted to share some progress photos from the Desiderio Homes construction site. Things are coming along!

We also thought we'd take the opportunity to share a little of the history surrounding the site. Both photos are taken from the Colorado Street Bridge, built in 1912, which lends a truly lovely backdrop to the site. In the second photo, you can see the historic Vista del Arroyo Hotel building, which is another beautiful complement dating back to 1920-1930. During WWII, it became the McCornack General Hospital, later becoming Federal offices, and is now the Richard H. Chambers United States Court of Appeals.

Much of Pasadena is beautiful, but the eight families who inhabit the project will have some pretty amazing architecture in their backyards.

More to come!

Food Bank For Larimer County Headquarters Under Construction

The renovation of the Food Bank for Larimer County's new Headquarters and Distribution Center on Wright Drive is under way! Dohn Construction has completed selective demolition of the interior to make way for a new kitchen, volunteer areas, and offices, along with cleaning up and re-cladding portions of the exterior. As is always true of the construction process, it may not look like much yet, but we're excited to see it progress!
