“Design capitalizes on views in every direction”
[au]workshop is designing this 26 unit mid-rise luxury apartment building on Wilshire Boulevard in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. An adjacent National Register-listed chateau required that the design solution carefully mediates between the allowed neighborhood density and the relatively diminutive scale of its historic neighbor. Unit planning capitalizes on views in every direction with most units having views and ventilation in two or even three directions. Limestone cladding is offset with a vibrant cascade of drought-tolerant planting that terminates above a shimmering water wall at street level.
