the design adapts the simple California Modernism of Irving Gill to a richer material palette of fiber cement siding, bright colors, and deeply textured board-and-batten

In order to meet Habitat for Humanity's goal of providing affordable, quality housing, this project comfortably accommodates 6 three-bedroom town homes (each with a two-car garage) on just 2 small single-family lots in the heart of Glendale. In response to an eclectic context of 1970's apartment complexes and single-family homes, the design adapts the simple California Modernism of Irving Gill to a richer material palette of fiber cement siding, bright colors, and deeply textured board-and-batten.

Like our first project for Habitat (the Desiderio Homes down the road in Pasadena), this project strives to achieve the highest possible design quality while remaining simple, affordable, and easily constructed by volunteer labor.
