“Our canopy design gestures to the street with a distinctive shape, color and materials”
The Fort Collins Museum of Art (MoA) asked [au]workshop to help solve several design issues as interim solutions during their ambitious 3-5 year renovation and expansion capital campaign. Of primary importance is providing an elegant and ennobling accessible entrance—current access is via a chairlift at the service dock!
MoA also currently has no outdoor gathering spaces and so they asked us to convert an inefficient parking area into a gathering and art installation plaza space along with the accessible entry path and front door.
Our canopy design at the entry door responds to the existing historic building’s strong arched window pattern and gestures to visitors at the street with a distinctive shape, color and materials while keeping the “interim solution” in mind with respect to cost.
