An expansion to the client’s neighboring office space, this project remakes an existing professional office into an open and light-filled workplace. The client challenged the design team to link the two offices while giving the new space its own unique character. Renovations to the interior included a new floor structure, windows and skylights, and DIRTT glass office partitions. Infused with the historic texture and character of exposed brick, these renovations produced an elegant and vibrant space.
On the exterior, the team reimagined the dated and uncomfortable stair atrium and the dreary balconies overlooking the existing courtyards. Ceramic panels and a (soon-to-be) lush, vine-covered wall frame the two courtyards at the ground level. Above, large, minimal steel window boxes frame dramatic views over the roof of the city to the west. The renovated stairway and entry help define and activate this contemporary and welcoming urban pocket park.
